Preventive Night Guards & Sports Guards

Mouth guards play a critical role in preserving the structural integrity of your teeth against physical impact and chronic nocturnal friction. We design and fabricate custom-molded protective guards using medical-grade polymers to shield your smile.
At Dr Batra's Dental Hub, we provide custom mouth guards for two primary needs:
1. Night Guards for Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)
Bruxism is the subconscious clenching and grinding of teeth during sleep, which leads to severely worn-down enamel, tooth sensitivity, fractured restorations, and TMJ (jaw joint) soreness. Our custom-fabricated night guards create a smooth protective barrier that absorbs grinding forces, relaxes jaw muscles, and prevents tooth damage.
2. High-Impact Athletic Sports Guards
Whether playing basketball, cricket, or martial arts, dental injuries are common. Our heavy-duty athletic sports guards are customized to comfortably stay in place during high-impact activities. They absorb impact energy, significantly reducing the risk of knocked-out teeth, lip lacerations, and jaw fractures.
Who Needs a Mouth Guard
Two very different groups: people who grind or clench in their sleep, and people who play contact sport. The appliance differs for each, and a shop-bought boil-and-bite guard does neither job particularly well.
Signs You May Be Grinding
- Waking with jaw ache, facial tightness or a dull headache, particularly in the morning
- Teeth that look increasingly flat, short or worn at the edges
- Increasing sensitivity with no decay to explain it
- A partner who has heard the grinding
- Repeatedly cracked fillings, chipped edges or failing crowns
- Clicking or discomfort in the jaw joint
Grinding, or bruxism, is largely involuntary and often stress-linked. It cannot simply be willed away, which is why protecting the teeth matters — enamel does not grow back, and years of nightly grinding causes wear that eventually needs restorative treatment.
Night Guards
A custom night guard is made from an impression or digital scan of your teeth, so it fits precisely and stays put. It absorbs the load that would otherwise be transmitted through your enamel and jaw joint. Compared with a boil-and-bite guard, a custom appliance is thinner, considerably more comfortable, less likely to be spat out during sleep, and does not alter your bite in unintended ways.
Sports Guards
A custom-fitted sports guard cushions impact to the teeth, lips and jaw. It matters most for contact and stick sports — cricket, hockey, football, basketball, boxing and martial arts. It is also strongly advised for anyone wearing fixed braces, where a knock can drive brackets into the lip.
Caring for Your Guard
- Rinse in cool water immediately after use and brush it gently — never with hot water, which distorts it
- Allow it to dry fully before storing in its ventilated case
- Bring it to your check-ups so we can inspect it for wear
- Expect to replace it periodically — a guard that has worn through is no longer protecting anything
